tibia. These patients were all treated conservativeIy. The first one was treated with massage and manipulations; and when the infant began to walk, a brace was applied until three and a half years of age. The last x-ray at the age of seven showed the persistence of a mild degree of media1 bowing of the Ieg bone. The child is reported at the age of eight to have 9; inch shortening. The authors’ second patient was observed unti1 the age of six. A brace was worn for three and a haIf years. The x-ray at the age of five and a half years disclosed mild medial bowing of both leg bones. There was I inch shortening. The third patient is still wearing a brace at the age of three years. At this age both components persist to a moderate degree; *I inch of shortening is reported. These authors submit posterior angulation as a cIinica1 entity, and rightly so, and describe the characteristics. It must be somewhat confusing, however, to the student of these rather rare anomalies to make this one a member of “Group III, ” Group I being congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia and Group II an anterior angulation of the tibia which is a rather Iater and secondary compIication of congenital FIG. 2. Case I. Preoperative appearance at twenty months after conservative treatment.

Congenital pseudarthrosis and bowing of the fibula.
The purpose of this paper is to describe experience with four children who presented with bowing or pseudarthrosis of the fibula. These children demonstrate a gradation in the severity and significance of this condition. There may be : 1) fibular bowing without fibular pseudarthrosis (Case 1); 2) fibular pseudarthrosis without ankle deformity (Case 2); 3) fibular pseudarthrosis with ankle defor...
متن کاملPathomorphology and treatment of congenital anterolateral bowing of the tibia associated with duplication of the hallux.
Congenital unilateral anterolateral tibial bowing in combination with a bifid ipsilateral great toe is a very rare deformity which resembles the anterolateral tibial bowing that occurs in association with congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia. However, spontaneous resolution of the deformity without operative treatment and with a continuously straight fibula has been described in all previousl...
متن کاملCongenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia
Forty cases of congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia were reviewed. The results were assessed so as to emphasise function rather than simply the presence or absence ofunion. At the time ofreview, 14 patients had undergone amputation; eight others had non-union or tenuous union. No surgical procedure except the Farmer operation (a composite skin and bone pedicle graft from the other leg) showed...
متن کاملComplicated Congenital Dislocation of the Knee: A Case Report
Congenital dislocation of the knee (CDK) is a rare disorder. We report the case of a 7-year-old girl with bilateral knee stiffness, marked anterior bowing of both legs, and inability to walk without aid. Radiologic investigation revealed bilateral knee joint dislocation accompanied by severe anterior bowing of both tibia proximally and posterior bowing of both femur distally, demonstrating ...
متن کاملThe aetiology of congenital angulation of tubular bones with constriction of the medullary canal, and its relationship to congenital pseudarthrosis.
It is suggested that there is a group of cases of congenital angulation of tubular bones in which the lesion is a defect of ossification of the primary cartilaginous anlage and in which neurofibromatosis is not implicated. It appears that in this group the prognosis with regard to the resolution of deformity and the prevention of pseudarthrosis with conservative treatment or relatively simple s...
